Jeff Burton is the driver of the number 31 AT&T Chevrolet owned by Richard Childress Racing. Jeff comes from a racing family and he began racing in a car owned by his father in 1988. Jeff made his debut in the NASCAR Cup Series in 1993 driving in one race, he drove the number 0 Ford sponsored by TIC Financial and owned by Filbert Martocci. 1994 was the rookie year for Jeff in the NASCAR Cup series where he drove the number 8 Ford owned by Stavola Brothers Racing and he went on to win 'Rookie of the Year' honors.

In 1996 after racing for only two years For Stavola Brothers Racing, Jeff began racing for Roush Racing instead. He drove the number 99 Exide Batteries sponsored Ford and finished in 13th place overall for the season. Jeff won his first race at the inaugural Cup Series race at the Texas Motor Speedway. During the years of 1997 to 2000 he career was on the fast track. Every year without fail he would never fall below 5th place in points at the end of the season. From 1997 to 2000 there was not a year that went without Jeff winning at least one event at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

His winning streaks, however, were soon to end as he failed to win a race in 2002 or 2003, but finished 12th in points and had eight top fives. His primary sponsor pulled out at the end of 2003 leaving him to be mainly sponsored by SKF, a personal sponsor. When this happened it was rumored that Jeff would be leaving Roush Racing, and he did. Midway through the 2004 season he signed a three-year contract with Richard Childress Racing after being with Roush for eight and a half years.

He began racing the number 30 AOL sponsored Chevrolet until the end of the season that year. In the beginning of the next season he was driving the number 31 Cingular Wireless sponsored Chevrolet. Jeff is a leader among the drivers in the garage in pushing NASCAR to implement safety features in the cars and at the speedways.

Outside of racing Jeff and his wife Kim are involved heavily with the Duke Children’s Hospital, more specifically the fifth floor of the hospital where the Children’s Health Center is located. Jeff and his wife have raised more than $1 million for the Hospital and Jeff has an entire area dedicated to him in the hospital ‘The Jeff Burton Racing Zone’. Jeff and his wife Kim do not just contribute money they actively participate in fund raising, make appearances and visit the children frequently. Kim is also on the board of directors of the Hospital.
