Kurt Busch, driver of the #2 Miller Lite Dodge for Penske Racing, is one of the top drivers in NASCAR today. His career has risen tremendously since his humble beginnings in his hometown of Las Vegas thanks to his raw talent and dedication.
Like many drivers, Kurt's interest in racing began with go-karts. He started racing more competitively in the Las Vegas Dwarf Car Series, where his regular wins put him on the fast track to NASCAR superstardom. Being the Dwarf Car Champion in 1995 and 1996 led to him the Southwest Series, which he eventually won. His quick rise to the top caught the attention of team owner Jack Roush, who gave him the chance to move to the top tier of NASCAR, where he quickly impressed, registering several top-ten finishes against his more established rivals.
With the Roush team, Busch won his first Sprint Cup Race in March of 2002 in the Food City 500 at
Bristol Motor Speedway
starting from 27th and beating Jimmy Spencer for the win. His success continued, and he went on to win the Sprint Cup Championship in 2004 after a spectacular year that included three race wins, two poles, and the feat of becoming the first driver to win both races at
New Hampshire
in one season.
In 2006, he moved to the Penske Miller Lite Dodge Racing Team, where his success has continued. His climb to the top has been lightning fast thanks to his natural talent and quick learning ability.
Off the track, he has established the Kurt Busch Foundation, which offers health care and education to those in need. Among other activities, the foundation organizes a celebrity kart race in Busch's native Las Vegas as a fundraiser.
Kurt's epic rise through the ranks of racing has been full of exciting moments and spectacular wins. Known for his fiery personality, he has had clashes with a number of fellow drivers throughout the years. He has quickly settled into the upper ranks of NASCAR and is one of the few drivers to have won in all of NASCAR's three top divisions- the Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. His success is predicted to continue well into the future thanks to his talent and determination.
